Inspiring Passion: The Entire Orchestra in Action (Grades 5-12)
“17th-Century Mash-Ups from the Heart of Europe”

Free Student Concert

This concert is specially designed for teachers and their students. Violinist/leader Elizabeth Blumenstock and Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra will perform colorful, foot-stomping 17th century works, including ones that reflect musical traditions from a diverse array of nations. Johann Heinrich Schmelzer’s Balletto la Pastorella includes sections in English, French, German, Spanish, and Bavarian styles; Georg Philipp Telemann’s masterpiece Les Nations represented music of the Turks, the Swiss, the Muscovites, and the Portuguese. The performers will share the distinctive sound of their own authentic instruments, show how the instruments evolved, and provide lively commentary about the composers and their times. Projected visual aids will enrich the presentation.

Friday, March 7, 2014, 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM
SFJAZZ Center, San Francisco

Applications will be accepted on a first come, first served basis, and a waiting list will be maintained. At least one adult teacher or chaperone should be assigned per 15 students.
