“Mood Swings, Mischief, & Mastery: Symphonies by CPE Bach & Joseph Haydn”

Wednesday, February 5, 2014 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Free Student Matinee

Explore and compare symphonic works by two great composers of the classical era. Led by their energetic Music Director Nicholas McGegan, Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra’s wind and string players will perform movements from CPE Bach’s moody, capricious Symphony in E minor Wq 178 (written in 1756) and Joseph Haydn’s magnificently crafted Symphony No. 68 in B-flat major (composed in 1778). Through instrument demonstrations and brief excursions into music history, the musicians will highlight the most enjoyable and entertaining elements of this music.
