DESCRIPTION:Join us for four evenings of listening and discovery as Philharmonia’s program notes annotator Scott Foglesong offers a practical introduction to the music\, the composers\, and the ideas and stories behind it. \nClass 3: Singing may have reached its ultimate peak during the Baroque. Great singers—some of them castrati— combined virtuosity with lyricism. It was a time of eloquent church music\, such as Bach’s cantatas\, oratorios\, and masses. Vivaldi’s abundant church music has been re-discovered only recently\, while French composers such as Lully and Rameau added their own spin to it all.
