SUMMARY:Community Music Day At Crowden School
DESCRIPTION:Join Crowden\, San Francisco Chamber Orchestra\, Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra\, and more for a free day of musical fun for all ages! \n\nCompose with Philharmonia \nParticipants are instructed to “compose” music by decorating a strip of music staff paper. Musicians from Philharmonia will then perform these compositions live. No prior music experience is necessary. \n\n\nBaroque Instrument Petting Zoo \nPhilharmonia invites participants to try out Baroque string instruments and bows. Experience the warm sound of pure gut strings and experience string instruments in the same way that they would have sounded and felt hundreds of years ago.

SUMMARY:Inside Baroque Adult Education Class 4: Baroque and the Now
DESCRIPTION:Join us for four evenings of listening and discovery as Philharmonia’s program notes annotator Scott Foglesong offers a practical introduction to the music\, the composers\, and the ideas and stories behind it. \nClass 4: 20th century composers looked back to the Baroque for inspiration. Stravinsky’s “neo-Baroque” style views Baroque idioms through a modern lens. The rise of historically-informed performance practice that aims to reconstruct\, as far as possible\, the overall sound world of Baroque music as it was\, has also impacted modern composers\, who may well for write for the harpsichord instead of the piano\, or who may explore the sonic possibilities of earlier string\, wind\, and brass instruments. The Baroque is very much with us today\, as we’ll find out in a session that will include a live performance by members of Philharmonia Baroque! \n\nDates: Wednesdays\, September 16\, 23\, 30\, and October 7 | 6:30–8:00 PMLocation: Community Music Center Mission Campus\, 544 Capp St\, San Francisco\, CA 94110Price: $100 for the full course (four sessions). This includes a $20 voucher toward a Philharmonia Baroque concert in the 2026/27 season.* \n\n\n\nENROLL TODAY\n*May not be combined with other discounts or applied to the price of a subscription. Not valid for concerts at Stanford. Exclusions apply.
