Stravinsky’s “neo-Baroque” style views Baroque idioms through a modern lens. The rise of historically-informed performance practice that aims to reconstruct\, as far as possible\, the overall sound world of Baroque music as it was\, has also impacted modern composers\, who may well for write for the harpsichord instead of the piano\, or who may explore the sonic possibilities of earlier string\, wind\, and brass instruments. But that’s just boring dates. Artistically\, it was a glorious effusion of new ideas\, styles\, and genres that reflected two opposing forces—the ostentation of extreme wealth\, and the precision of scientific advancement. Some Baroque works give out a cost-no-object vibe\, whereas other pieces reflect a fascination with precise forms and the careful organization of musical affects.
