Today’s Musical Postcard features the brilliant tenor James Gilchrist. A favorite voice of our Music Director Richard Egarr, James brings an academic beauty and clarity to the music he performs.
With a love for medicine and music, James started his career as a medical doctor and sang in groups such as the Tallis Scholars while practicing medicine at the London Hospital. Making the full switch to a life in the arts in 1996, James muses, “It’s glib to call music the medicine of the soul, but I think there’s some truth in that.”
We are delighted to share a special message from James to the Philharmonia audience, and his riveting performance of and excerpt from Benjamin Britten’s Canticle III: Still falls the rain.
