Offered January 19-22, 2016

Students will discover how continuo players (cello and harpsichord) work together to shape a harmonic and rhythmic foundation for the melody (violin) in a baroque ensemble—in much the same way that a bass and rhythm instruments function in rock, jazz, fusion, and electronic music. Ornamentation and improvisation will be highlighted as creative stylistic elements, and students will have an opportunity to handle baroque style musical artifacts.
