Philharmonia is delighted to share the news that clarinetist Thomas Carroll and violinist Manami Mizumoto have won recent auditions for membership in the Orchestra!

Thomas Carroll is no stranger to PBO, having performed this past season in both the Schumann and Mozart concerts. With a sound described as “beautifully warm” (Herald Times) and “sweet and agile” (The New York Times), he performs extensively throughout North America and Europe on historical instruments. Carroll is also an accomplished instrument builder, and his instruments and mouthpieces are played throughout North America, Europe, and Australia. He holds degrees from Oberlin Conservatory, Indiana University, and The Royal Conservatoire of The Hague.

Manami Mizumoto was born and raised in New York and is a recent graduate of the Historical Performance program at Juilliard, where she also received her Bachelor’s degree in music. She last performed with PBO in the violin section for “Schumann’s Awakened Masterpieces” last October. Mizumoto is a founding member of the group Nuova Pratica, a collective of composer-performers working with centuries-old practices of improvisation in the modern day. She is also a Fellow of The English Concert in America, elected in 2021.

Please join us in warmly congratulating Thomas and Manami and welcoming them next season!
