Time Travel Through Music

Watch Philharmonia’s 35-minute Early Music video. See the musicians demonstrate their instruments and watch Music Director Nicholas McGegan lead a rehearsal and performance of Purcell’s Dioclesian.

Audio Resources

Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra has produced numerous recordings. These are available for purchase and download. The orchestra is also featured in a weekly radio broadcast series on KDFC.

About the Music

Our focus is on historically informed performance, meaning that we present historical music in a manner appropriate to the time and place in which it was composed. Our programming encompasses the baroque, classical, and early romantic periods.

Composers

The history of music is, in many ways, the story of generations of composers. Read profiles of some of the composers whose works we perform.

Our Instruments

Among the many fascinating aspects of historical performance are the instruments. Some are similar to those used in the modern orchestra, and others are quite different.

Pre-Concert Programs

Get the most from each concert you attend. Join us before every Subscription Season program for an informative 45-minute Prelude discussion led by musicologists Scott Foglesong and John Prescott.
