Welcome to our 2015/2016 season. This year celebrates three notable anniversaries: Nicholas McGegan’s 30th as Philharmonia’s esteemed music director, the ensemble’s 35th, and the 20th of the Chorale. Philharmonia will honor Nic at our annual gala and at a special concert featuring Susan Graham on February 11, 2016. This season also brings special performances of Handel’s Messiah, a first-ever recording of Scarlatti’s The Glory of Spring and a U.S. tour. We hope you’ll join us!
The bay area concert season offers a selection of exceptionally beautiful works by Baroque masters presented with the sparkling energy and virtuosic musicianship you expect from Nicholas McGegan and Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra. We begin with a majestic Scarlatti serenata not heard for nearly 300 years and continue the season with a lovely set of works by Bach, Handel, Purcell, Mozart, Vivaldi, Beethoven, Mendelssohn and more.
